Feminine hygiene products for teens
For many years, Sol-Power Africa has been supporting the maternity unit at the Kwinella Hospital located in a rural area of The Gambia. Through our visits to the Women's Clinic and working with the community in Gambia, we learned that many young girls who do not have access to feminine hygiene products stay home from school each month during their menstrual cycle. This means they miss 1 week of lessons every month, putting them at an academic disadvantage..
Fortunately, through our innovative team's problem-solving and the FAM group's assistance, an immaculate solution was birthed. Our sister of FAM came back to the United States and she began researching and sewing reusable sanitary napkins made with materials that will allow the girls to be hygienic and attend school being able to wash and reuse, making it an efficient and affordable option.
The first shipment of reusable sanitary napkins were distributed by the clinic staff in December of 2023. The young women informed the staff about its profound impact on school-age girls in the region.
